Letters from our Readers: BREAKFAST IN JOCK STRAPS "I cannot understand the incongruity in physique magazines showing people eating their breakfast, vaccuuming the floor, mowing the lawn, etc. all in jock straps (or posing straps). Normal people don't do that sort of thing. You should have the models wear the normal clothes they should be wearing. Clothes add a desirable, modest mystery." E.C. Browning, MO. Editor's Reply: If by "normal" you mean average, we agree. However, respectable nudists do all these things and many others with considerable less apparel than a jock strop. A good many physical culturists wear next to nothing when behind locked doors (where pius eyes will not be offended). Too, our book and others like it are devoted to the display of the physique and it can best be shown unemcumbered. A high percentage of our clientele use the books for art practice and most artists prefer to work from the basic uncovered form and then add their clothes on afterwards. Giving the models something to do odds variety to the rather monotonous classic presentation (which can get tiring when not relieved by something different). We certainly do agree with the writer that clothes do add a "mystery" and not always a very wholesome one. However we do agree that sometimes a physique photo is much more effective with limited clothing than with none.. ...WANTS TRAINING INFORMATION "If your book is supposed to be for bodybuilders why doesnt it contain important training information as do most of the other magazines. Also why dont you show real physiques like Reg Parks and Grimek." C. E. Sheboygan, Wisc. Editor's Reply: Training information is readily available in dozens of physique books on the stands, much of it written by people far more qualified than ourselves. A book the size of Physique Pictorial cannot be all things to all people or it would probably end up being next to nothing to everybody. Our mission is to present the body beautiful as a constant encouragement to everyone to make himself a little better. Massive physiques like Reg Parks and John Grimek represent an idea goal for many, but other physical culturists actually prefer a much trimmer type of body.
